Finding The Secrets Of Squirrels

Description

The squirrels always disappeared near the fallen log. Following them had revealed little more than flickering tails—until a curl of smoke rose through the ferns. Now, crouched behind the leaves, a small explorer has found something far more interesting than a hidden store of nuts: an acorn with a chimney, a lighted window, and a door worth knocking on.
Finding the Secrets of Squirrels places this discovery close to the forest floor. An oversized acorn becomes a snug woodland cottage, its deeply textured cap forming a broad, overlapping roof. A short chimney sends pale smoke upward beside the sturdy stem. Below, a round wooden door carries a brass-colored ring, and shallow steps lead toward it through moss and scattered leaves.
Warm amber light shines from a small cross-paned window, illuminating the surrounding ivy and giving the cottage an inviting, occupied presence. Its honey-brown walls stand out against cool sage, blue-green shadows, and soft gray stones. Mushrooms cluster beside the entrance, while pinecones, delicate flowers, lichen, and fallen oak leaves reward a closer look.
At the right, a curly-haired child peers through fern fronds beneath a loose green hood edged with moss-like greenery. The foliage partly conceals the child’s face, making the viewer a companion in the careful approach. Watercolor-like washes and softly irregular edges give the scene the intimate character of an illustrated woodland tale.
The imagined explorer has spent the whole afternoon trying to learn where the squirrels go. With the answer finally within reach, a new question takes its place: should a visitor knock, or wait to be invited? Behind the little round door, something begins to stir.
