Description

The race starts every morning, right after the tea is poured.

Small hands wrap around the old floral cup, the one with the cracks nobody minds. Steam curls up and gathers into clouds. And down on the water, a paper sailboat catches the breeze from one careful breath and sets off across the waves, past seashells, past the shoals, toward the lighthouse standing proud on its island of sugar cubes.

Nobody else is racing. That’s fine. The lighthouse keeps its lamp lit anyway, and the boat always wins.
