Maevora Thalen – THE WAYKEEPER – Parting The Second Flood

Price range: $36.00 through $1,601.00

Once a rural emergency coordinator, Maevora Thalen senses and redirects water through a pressure-altering gift; she cannot create or destroy it, and controlling a flood strains her body. Gripping her weathered staff, she holds apart two towering walls of water as families, animals, and rescue vehicles cross the muddy corridor toward safety.

Description

The flood has swallowed the roads, the fields, and nearly every home in the valley. Yet through the center of the devastation, a narrow passage remains dry.
At its entrance stands Maevora Thalen, an elderly heroine known as The Waykeeper, whose extraordinary gift allows her to command the movement and pressure of water. With a weathered wooden staff gripped firmly in one hand and the other extended toward the horizon, she holds back two immense walls of floodwater, creating a temporary corridor of safety for hundreds of displaced families.
Behind her, the procession stretches into the distance. Children walk beside exhausted parents, animals follow their owners, and emergency vehicles illuminate the muddy passage. Beyond the towering waves, rooftops emerge from the submerged countryside beneath the golden light of a setting sun.
Maevora does not lead the people to safety. She remains behind, ensuring the path stays open until the last person has crossed.
The Origin of Maevora Thalen —
Long before becoming the Waykeeper, Maevora was a rural emergency coordinator who spent decades organizing evacuations through flood-prone communities.
During a catastrophic dam failure, she was swept beneath the floodwaters while attempting to rescue a group of stranded children. Trapped in a violent underwater current, she encountered an unexplained geological phenomenon: an immense network of pressure-sensitive crystalline formations embedded deep beneath the riverbed.
The encounter permanently altered her nervous system, enabling her to perceive the movement, weight, and pressure of surrounding water as though it were an extension of her own body.
For years, she concealed her abilities, intervening quietly whenever floods threatened nearby communities.
But when a second unprecedented flood consumed the region, Maevora revealed the full extent of her powers, creating a passage through waters that no conventional rescue operation could overcome.
She became known as the Waykeeper—not because she could stop every disaster, but because she could still find a way through one.
Powers & Abilities —
Hydrodynamic Redirection: Maevora can alter the direction and velocity of moving water, diverting destructive currents away from people and structures.
Hydrostatic Partition: She can establish opposing pressure barriers that hold large volumes of water apart, forming temporary passages through flooded terrain.
Current Perception: Her altered nervous system detects subtle changes in water pressure, enabling her to locate submerged obstacles, dangerous currents, and movement beneath the surface.
Pressure Equalization: She can redistribute hydraulic forces across a body of water, reducing the immediate impact of surges and flash floods.
Fluid Anchoring: Using her staff as a focusing instrument, Maevora can maintain a stable boundary between moving water and protected ground.
Limitations: Maevora cannot create or destroy water. Every diverted current must flow somewhere, and the larger the volume she controls, the greater the physical strain on her body.
Her partitions become increasingly unstable over extended distances, particularly when floodwaters contain heavy debris or powerful opposing currents. Maintaining a passage for too long can cause muscular paralysis, cardiovascular stress, and temporary loss of her pressure perception.
Her greatest vulnerability is the number of people she refuses to leave behind.
The Scene —
The Waykeeper — Parting the Second Flood depicts Maevora at the edge of an extraordinary rescue operation.
Her silver-gray hair is tied loosely behind her head, revealing a face shaped by age, experience, and quiet determination. She wears a battered blue coat reinforced with improvised straps, utility pouches, and heavy weatherproof clothing. Nothing about her appearance suggests ceremonial heroism. She looks like someone who has spent a lifetime working through difficult conditions.
In her left hand, an old wooden staff bears a small hanging ornament. Her right hand reaches toward the towering floodwaters, maintaining the invisible pressure boundary that prevents the passage from collapsing.
Beyond her, an extraordinary procession moves between enormous walls of churning water. Families carry what little they could save, while rescue vehicles advance through the flooded countryside. The road itself remains muddy and uneven, emphasizing the fragile, temporary nature of their escape.
Warm sunlight breaks through dense storm clouds, illuminating the passage toward higher ground. The scene’s dramatic scale contrasts with the deeply human details of the evacuation: people walking together, children remaining close to their families, and an elderly protector choosing to stand where the danger is greatest.
Unlike heroes whose strength is measured through conquest, Maevora’s extraordinary abilities exist for one purpose: to preserve a path for those who cannot escape alone.
The flood may take the land, but the Waykeeper refuses to let it take the people.
