Description
The storm has already won the coastline. It hasn’t stopped the cars.
Three classic muscle cars charge along rain-blackened pavement with headlights burning through sea spray and low fog. Their reflections stretch across the flooded asphalt while tires throw water behind them, turning the highway itself into part of the action. Beyond the guardrail, rough ocean water pounds a rocky shore.
Then there is the moon—enormous, cold, and almost impossibly bright above the road. It breaks through towering storm clouds while rain continues to fall, placing the machines below beneath a sky that feels every bit as powerful as they do.
Three Engines Against the Weather is built around confrontation: horsepower against rain, headlights against darkness, and three pieces of automotive history refusing to disappear quietly into the storm.
The wedding cake was supposed to reach the inn by six. At twenty to, it was still in the back seat of a green fastback, buckled in like a passenger, while the bride's three uncles argued over which coastal road was quicker. They settled it by taking all three cars. The storm came off the water before they had gone a mile. Spray broke over the guardrail, the moon slid in and out of the clouds, and the uncles drove in a careful line with their headlights blazing and their radios tuned to the same station so they could hear each other complain. The cake arrived at ten past six without a single crack. Everyone agreed it was the best cake they had ever tasted.
