Aerovant

Description

AEROVANT was a disaster-response specialist who entered a collapsing high-rise to reach people other rescuers could not. Buried when the structure failed around him, he awakened with an unexplained second pulse running through his body—one synchronized not with his heart, but with the movement of air around living people.
That connection manifests through an ability called Liftdraft. Aerovant can gather the tiny air currents produced by breathing, movement, and body heat and magnify them into tremendous lifting force. The more lives gathered near him, the greater the force he can create. His enormous feathered wings are not ordinary biological wings; they materialize when Liftdraft reaches sufficient strength, giving the invisible currents a physical structure through which they can be directed. His greatest power therefore appears exactly where it is needed most: among people who need to survive.
This artwork catches Aerovant deep inside the kind of catastrophe that created him.
A building is coming apart overhead. Concrete has split open, reinforcement bars twist from broken slabs, windows have blown from their frames, and chunks of the structure tumble through a sky thick with smoke, dust, and flying debris. Aerovant plants himself beneath a collapsing section, one arm thrust upward against the wreckage while the other reaches across the civilians gathered behind him.
His clothing tells its own story. This is not a polished ceremonial costume untouched by danger. His rescue gear is torn, dirty, and battered. His face carries the same exhaustion. Behind that human vulnerability, immense white wings spread across the destruction, catching the warm light pouring through the ruined skyline until individual feathers seem almost illuminated from within.
The people beneath them are not anonymous background figures. Children stare upward. Workers and families crowd together. An elderly woman clutches her belongings while others watch the collapsing structure with fear plainly visible across their faces. Their presence gives the scene its scale: Aerovant is not fighting for territory, revenge, or spectacle.
He is holding up what remains of their escape.
Concrete continues to fall. Dust rolls through the street. His wings are fully extended.
And with every frightened breath behind him, Aerovant becomes just strong enough to hold on a little longer.
