Edrivan Voss – CHRONOS IN THE DEEP END – The Weightless Hour

Price range: $38.00 through $2,300.00

Former theoretical physicist Edrivan Voss traps moments in localized time fields, though he cannot reverse events and continues to age. In an abandoned swimming pool, he studies a single suspended droplet as swimmers and water hang frozen around him, their movements unfinished in the sunlight.

Description

The swimmers never reached the water.
They remain suspended above an abandoned swimming pool, their bodies twisted and deformed, caught in movements that began decades ago. A diver stretches toward an unfinished plunge. Another twists helplessly in midair. Water droplets hang motionless around them, preserving the exact instant their lives were interrupted.
Standing among these impossible scenes is Edrivan Voss, an impeccably dressed elderly gentleman who studies a small, suspended droplet of water with the detached curiosity of a scientist examining a specimen.
He is the only person in the building for whom time continues normally.
The Origin of Edrivan Voss —
Edrivan was once a brilliant theoretical physicist who devoted his career to studying the relationship between time, motion, and human consciousness.
His research centered on an extraordinary hypothesis: every moment of existence possesses a measurable chronological signature, and sufficiently precise manipulation of that signature could isolate an individual from the continuous passage of time.
After decades of failed experiments, Edrivan developed a miniature temporal containment device capable of interrupting the progression of time within a limited physical space.
His first successful experiment took place inside an aging municipal swimming facility scheduled for demolition.
The experiment worked.
Every swimmer, falling droplet, and airborne fragment within the chamber became suspended in a single instant. But Edrivan discovered something far more disturbing: the containment field could preserve a moment indefinitely, allowing him to examine living beings as though they were specimens in a museum.
Rather than releasing his subjects, he converted the abandoned facility into his private laboratory.
Over the years, his fascination evolved into an obsession with collecting extraordinary moments from human lives.
To Edrivan, a moment preserved forever is a moment rescued from death, disappointment, and inevitable change.
He does not consider himself a murderer or a captor.
He considers himself a conservator of existence.
Powers & Abilities —
Temporal Suspension: Edrivan can isolate people, objects, and physical events within localized regions where time effectively stops.
Chronological Extraction: He can remove a precise interval from the normal progression of time, preserving its contents within a stable temporal field.
Selective Continuity: Edrivan can allow specific objects or individuals to move normally while everything surrounding them remains suspended.
Moment Preservation: Through specialized containment devices, he can maintain captured instants for extended periods without their inhabitants experiencing the passage of time.
Temporal Release: He can reactivate suspended events, causing interrupted actions to resume from the exact point at which they were stopped.
Limitations: Edrivan cannot reverse events that have already occurred or travel freely through the past. His powers operate by interrupting chronological progression rather than rewriting history.
Larger containment fields require exponentially greater energy, and maintaining too many simultaneously threatens the stability of his devices. If a containment field collapses unexpectedly, every suspended event resumes at once, potentially producing catastrophic consequences.
Edrivan himself continues aging normally, making his obsession with preserving others increasingly tragic.
The Scene —
The composition places Edrivan at the center of a deteriorating indoor swimming facility, surrounded by evidence of a disaster that never had the opportunity to finish.
Sunlight enters through towering industrial windows and a damaged section of the ceiling, illuminating weathered concrete, turquoise pool tiles, and abandoned furniture.
Above the water, several swimmers remain caught in impossible positions. Their suspended bodies suggest athletic movement, sudden panic, and the ordinary human expectation that gravity will complete what motion has begun.
Edrivan, however, pays them almost no attention.
Wearing a tailored brown three-piece suit, he stands with one hand resting in his pocket while studying a tiny droplet suspended above his fingertips.
The contrast is deliberate: extraordinary human lives have been interrupted, yet the man responsible appears more interested in the mechanics of a single drop of water.
Chronos in the Deep End — The Weightless Hour explores the disturbing consequences of treating time as a possession rather than an experience.
The abandoned swimming pool becomes an unsettling museum of unfinished actions, where movement exists without progress and preservation has become indistinguishable from imprisonment.
For everyone suspended above the water, the next second may never arrive.
